A Washington woman died Thursday night when the motorcycle she was riding hit a deer in Sweet Grass County.

Valerie VanCleve, 55, of Shelton, Wash., died of traumatic head injuries, said Daryl Hodges, Sweet Grass County coroner.

VanCleve’s husband, Allen VanCleve, who was driving the motorcycle, was flown to a Billings hospital, Hodges said.

A Billings Clinic spokeswoman said VanCleve was in good condition on Friday morning.

Neither was wearing a helmet, Hodges said.

The accident happened at about 8:15 p.m. on Highway 10 East, a frontage road east of Big Timber, the Montana Highway Patrol said. The motorcycle was traveling east when it struck a deer in the road, the patrol said.
