BUTTE — An 84-year-old Idaho woman was killed in an ATV accident Tuesday in the Centennial Valley, south of Dillon.

Darlene Beth Bolander, of Firth, Idaho, and her husband were operating separate ATVs along with three other friends when she lost control of her ATV, said Beaverhead County Sheriff Jay Hansen. She was thrown off and into the rocky terrain. The four-wheeler then rolled over her.

Bolander was not familiar with the road and trails in the area, Hansen said. She was not wearing a helmet and alcohol was not a factor.

The Madison County 911 Center received a call at 1:30 p.m. concerning an ATV fatal in the remote area of Conklin Lake in the eastern most portions of the valley and Beaverhead County.

The Beaverhead County coroner and sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene around 3:30 p.m. Madison County deputies and the Montana Highway Patrol assisted in the investigation.
