Bob Dylan and John Mellencamp will perform at Mike Lansing Field later this summer. Dylan will also play two days later on Aug. 14 at the Snow King Resort in Jackson.

The concert, scheduled for Aug. 12, is the first of its kind at the minor league ballpark, according to Casper Ghosts General Manager Mike Sandler.

“We’ve done some pregame shows and stuff, but we’ve never had anything this big,” Sandler said.

“The entire park will turn into general-admission seating, first-come, first-served.

“The stage will be in deep center field, it’s about a 100-foot-by-200-foot stage and it will just be the whole field plus the seating.”

Sandler said a promoter approached the Ghosts to get the concert to Casper, noting that in years past, Dylan has played minor league ballparks across the country.

Last summer, Dylan played ballpark concerts in more than a dozen states across the country, many of them in the northeast.

Sandler said he’s hoping for a capacity crowd — around 8,000 people — and said concert-goers can bring in towels or lawn chairs if they want to set up on the field. Ticket prices haven’t been announced yet.

In April, USA Today named Mike Lansing Field one of the “10 great places for a baseball pilgrimage.”

“Baseball can’t get much more intimate than it does at this 2,500-seat venue, named for Wyoming native and former big-leaguer Mike Lansing,” the article read. The stadium overlooks the North Platte River.

Dylan will also play two other minor league ballparks in the region — Dehler Park in Billings, home of the Mustangs, and Haymarket Park in Lincoln, Neb., home of the Saltdogs. He also has a concert scheduled in Jackson on Aug. 14 at the Snow King Resort.

Dylan is scheduled to complete his European tour on July 4 before resuming in the states on Aug. 4 with a concert in Austin, Texas.

Tickets for the Casper date go on sale July 10 to the general public and July 6 for pre-sale orders through Dylan’s website, BobDylan.com.
