RANCHESTER, Wyo. (AP) – The Ranchester Town Council has been considering a ban on Rottweilers following a dog attack in Lovell that killed a toddler.

Town Marshal Mike Kuzara said he is not aware of any Rottweiler owners in Ranchester but the council wants to prevent a similar attack. The town already bans pit bulls, hybrid coyotes and wolves.

Kristin Ann Jolley, 1, was attacked by a Rottweiler after wandering across the street to where the dog, Max, was chained up, authorities said. She died Oct. 29.

The dog owners, Matthew Martinez and Anne Shine, are accused of starving and mistreating the dog. They have been charged with involuntary manslaughter and accessories to a felony crime. Penalties if convicted are a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine on each charge.
