GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK — Grand Teton National Park says a vehicle struck and killed a male grizzly bear that darted onto U.S. 89 inside the park.
Park spokeswoman Jackie Skaggs said a Jackson man called park officials the night of June 2 to report the incident. Skaggs says he wasn’t charged.
The man, whose name wasn’t released, stayed at the scene till park officials arrived. Skaggs says he seemed distraught.
The 3 1/2-year-old bear had been captured and tagged as a cub about two years ago, along with his mother and a sibling, in the Buffalo Valley area after causing property damage.
Wyoming Game and Fish says the bears were relocated but the young male returned to the park last year. Skaggs says the bear hadn’t caused any problems since then.
