CODY — Though it will remain closed to skiers for another week, Sleeping Giant ski area will host an open house on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Workers will serve lunch in the ski area’s remodeled lodge and demonstrate new ski lifts and equipment.

Managers had planned to open Nov. 27 but cited insufficient snow and delays in completing the installation of new lifts as cause for pushing the date back several times.

The ski area is now planning to open Dec. 18, with special events scheduled for Dec. 19, including races and a torchlight parade, with lift tickets selling at half price.

A nonprofit group is working to reopen the historic ski hill near the east entrance to Yellowstone National Park. It was first opened in the late 1930s and has been closed since 2004.
