CODY — Photographs by Bobby Model, a Cody native who earned an international reputation as a photographer, are on display at the Park County Public Library in Cody.
Upon graduation from college, Model started out in adventure photography, covering mountaineering expeditions on five continents for clients in the publishing industry, including National Geographic. Later, his interests evolved to include photographic reportage that addressed news as well as geo-political and social issues.
His photographs have appeared in National Geographic, The New York Times, Outside, Rock and Ice, Mother Jones and other international publications. He was a contributing photographer to National Geographic Adventure Magazine, and in 2006 was named an Emerging Explorer by the National Geographic Society Missions Program.
Model, who died in 2009 at age 36, moved to Kenya in 2004, but he maintained an office in Cody and worked on regional stories as well, including ice climbing and rodeo.
The photographs at the library are from the Cody and Yellowstone region, although three large photographic banners hanging above the library fireplace encompass international subjects.
On long-term loan from Bobby Model Photography/M-11 Images, the pictures hang on the library’s southeast wall opposite the adult fiction stacks.
