CASPER, Wyo. — Casper City Councilwoman Amanda Huckabay resigned her office Friday.

City Council members received an email from Huckabay on Friday afternoon announcing her resignation, said Councilwoman Kenyne Humphrey.

“Her fiance lives in Utah, so she will be joining him over there to start the next chapter of their lives,” Humphrey said.

The councilwoman estimated it will be at least a month before a new council member is appointed. Council members will advertise the opening and then pick the new candidate themselves.

“I think the biggest challenge is that it takes a while for new council members to get up to speed, but that’s just the way the process works," said Humphrey.

Councilman Dallas Laird said he knew the councilwoman was considering making a move to Utah.

"It's not a total surprise," he remarked.

The councilman praised Huckabay for being a "fearless" leader and said he wishes her well with her new life.

"I'm going to miss her being on the Council," he added.

Huckabay represented Ward 1 and was largely known for advocating for sexual assault survivors.
