CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A Sheridan man is appealing the second lengthy prison sentence he has received for his involvement in a home invasion killing.
The Wyoming Supreme Court is set to hear arguments Wednesday from a lawyer representing Wyatt Bear Cloud.
Bear Cloud originally had been sentenced to life in prison in the 2009 killing of Sheridan businessman Robert Ernst. Bear Cloud was 16 at the time.
Following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that banned mandatory life sentences for juvenile offenders, a district judge last summer resentenced Bear Cloud to be eligible for parole after serving 25 years for the killing and about 10 more years on a burglary sentence.
Bear Cloud is arguing on appeal that his new sentence also amounts to an unconstitutional life term.
