RIVERTON, Wyo. — A former Riverton police officer has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of aggravated assault.

Frisco Saunders, 42, entered the plea Tuesday in Lander District Court.

Judge Marvin L. Tyler set trial for Nov. 3.

Prosecutors say the charge against Saunders stems from a June 2 incident in which he was exchanging custody of a child with his ex-wife, Tina Saunders.

According to a police statement, Tina Saunders reported her ex-husband argued with her, threatened to kill her, and then tried to hit her with his Chevrolet Suburban as she walked away. She told police the vehicle's side-view mirror struck her arm.

Frisco Saunders had served in the Riverton Police Department until early 2009.
