The Hardluck fire burning in the Washakie Wilderness southwest of Cody, Wyo., was mapped at 1,200 acres on Friday.

For the last few days the growth has been in a southerly direction. There was widespread lightning throughout the northern half of the Shoshone National Forest last night, but no measurable moisture fell. A 20-person initial attack crew is on standby in anticipation of new fire starts.

Plans for Friday included creating fire line at the mouth of the South Fork of the Shoshone River west of the Majo Ranch and continuing assessment of structures on private property.

Smoke from the Hardluck fire was prevalent in the South Fork Shoshone River valley Friday morning and haze could be seen from Cody, 52 miles northeast of the fire. Smoky conditions are expected to continue intermittently.
