JACKSON, Wyo. — Jackson officials are considering getting easements on some private property and buying other property outright to stop a slow-moving landslide that started in April.
The Town Council will get estimates on the cost of buying residential property at the top of the slide. Engineers say removing soil there is critical to stopping ground movement.
Officials will also look into getting easements on commercial property at the base of the slide to allow construction of permanent buttresses.
The 450-foot-wide slide split a house in two and threatened other homes and businesses. Crews slowed it by piling rock along the base.
Movement has slowed to a fraction of an inch a day, but some worry that next spring's thaw could speed it up.
