CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Legislature's Joint Education Interim Committee is holding discussions on how the state runs its public education system.

The discussion on Friday in Cheyenne stems from the struggle between the Legislature and the governor's office and state Superintendent of Public Instruction Cindy Hill over control of the Wyoming Education Department.

The Legislature and Gov. Matt Mead enacted a law last year taking away many of the superintendent's duties.

Hill challenged the law in court and subsequently won a Supreme Court decision that the law was unconstitutional. She returned as head of the agency this week.

The Joint Education Interim Committee is tasked with studying and drafting any legislation on how the state's education administration is organized. The panel can recommend a special session.
