A Wyoming man died Friday evening near Alpine when he lost control of a pickup, which rolled 300 feet down a cliff into the Snake River.
Shane Moulton, 33, was driving south on a snow-covered and icy section of Highway 89 in Lincoln County, according to a Wyoming Highway Patrol report. He lost control of the pickup shortly after 6 p.m. and crossed the highway, where the truck hit a guardrail.
The truck then tipped over the guardrail, fell 20 feet off a retaining wall and then rolled down the cliff into the river, the report states.
The truck finally came to rest on its roof with the cab underwater, according to the highway patrol. Moulton was trapped inside.
Moulton was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. He may have been driving too fast for conditions, according to the crash report.
