ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. — Utility officials say a pigeon set off a chain reaction that cut off electrical power to some Rock Springs customers and kept the Rock Springs Rocket-Miner from printing Tuesday's edition.
The three-hour blackout ended at 11:37 p.m. Monday, too late for the next day's paper to be completed and printed.
Managing Editor Deb Holbert Sutton said the newspaper hoped to meet its deadlines, but it took longer than expected to restore power.
She says the newspaper regrets any inconvenience to readers.
The pigeon came in contact with electrical equipment about 30 yards from the newspaper's loading dock at about 8:30 p.m. Rocky Mountain Power, which supplies Rock Springs, says that triggered fuses and knocked out electricity to as many as 23 customers.
