CODY, Wyo. — The Park County Sheriff's Department is working to identify a headless, "severely mutilated" body found in a remote area outside Powell on Thursday.

Park County Sheriff Scott Steward said the man's body was found at about noon on Thursday by a man hunting ducks with his son. Investigators haven't found the man's head.

Steward said the victim also was missing an arm. He said investigators are trying to identify the man.

Seward said it is unknown where the crime took place, and whether or not the victim knew his attacker. He said investigators are pursuing leads.

Investigators with the Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation agents are investigating the scene on Little Sand Coulee Road where the body was discovered.

The location where the body was found is about 1.5 miles west of WYO 294 (Badger Basin Road) in northeast Park County, near the Montana border.

The victim is described as being less than 6 feet tall and weighing between 180 and 200 pounds with a "stocky" build.

The victim was wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans. He wore a belt with Native American designs and a matching belt buckle with braided border and an inlaid, pearl-colored horse head.
