SHERIDAN, Wyo. — A group in Sheridan says it's prepared to take legal action to prevent fluoride from being added to the city's drinking water.

The group Clean Water Sheridan says a general-election vote in 1953 should have ended water fluoridation. The group says the Sheridan City Council shouldn't have been able to vote in 2010 to resume fluoridation.

The group says only another ballot measure could have allowed fluoridation to resume.

The group has hired an attorney and plans to seek a court injunction to halt fluoridation.

City officials plan to install a fluoridation system at both of the city's water treatment plants next month. Proponents say fluoride can help prevent tooth decay, especially among youngsters whose families can't afford to take them to the dentist.
