SHERIDAN, Wyo. — Sheridan Councilman John Heath will be the city's new mayor, replacing Dave Kinskey as he leaves to join the Wyoming Legislature.

The City Council selected Heath during a meeting Thursday. Heath will serve through 2016.

Heath's appointment happened in front of city staff, relatives, and county representatives who packed the council chambers at the Sheridan City Hall.

Meanwhile, Kinskey will be sworn in to the Wyoming state Senate Tuesday. He is filling the seat left vacant by the death last month of Sen. John Schiffer. Kinskey will serve the remainder of Schiffer's term, which runs through 2016.

Schiffer was a Republican from Kaycee who had served as Senate president.
