One of the Las Vegas police officers who was shot and killed Sunday had ties to Wyoming.

Alyn Beck graduated from Green River High School, said Green River Police Chief Chris Steffen. The chief said he did not know Beck personally but had the information since Green River is a small community.

Beck’s personal Facebook page states he is from Green River. He attended the University of Wyoming from 1994 to 1998.

His Facebook page features a photo of Beck waterskiing. There is also a picture of his family and a photo of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department badge with a black line through it that Beck posted July 23. A friend on Facebook asked Beck what it meant.

“One of my friends was killed last night,” Beck wrote. “He was doing a helicopter rescue when his harness came loose and he fell about 60 feet. Dave was one of those even keel guys that would have done anything for you. A great guy to have standing next to you when you knew it was going to get bad. He will be missed.”

Now about 45 of Beck’s Facebook friends have as profile pictures the same badge.

Someone started an Alyn Beck RIP Facebook page Sunday. People have started to write notes of thanks to Beck for his service.

"Thoughts and prayers for the families of Officer Beck and Officer Soldo,” wrote a woman who identifies herself as Sue Gorman. “May you both RIP. Thank you for your dedication and service. Godspeed.”
