CASPER — The Sweetwater County School District 1 board of trustees on Wednesday selected a Colorado educator as the district's next superintendent.

Mathew Neal, the director of innovation strategy and operations for Denver Public Schools, was chosen from a field of four candidates, according to a district media release.

Neal is scheduled to begin his duties July 1.

The selection process included forums for members of the public, school personnel and other stakeholders, the release stated.

Neal also served as an instructional leader for program and assessment development in Denver. He directed the opening of nine new schools in the Denver. Before that, he was executive director at the Brighton and Durango school districts in Colorado.
