LARAMIE, Wyo. — The University of Wyoming State Veterinary Lab now has more capability to research animal diseases thanks to a $25 million addition and remodeling.
Gov. Dave Freudenthal and others helped dedicate the new biosafety level 3 laboratory last week in Laramie.
The Laramie Boomerang reports that diseases researched at the facility include brucellosis, plague, rabies, chronic wasting disease and more.
Freudenthal said the lab addition would place UW and Wyoming in prime position to create research-based policy.
UW President Tom Buchanan said the facility would serve as a nexus for researchers at nearly every academic level to work on testing, diagnosing, treatment and vaccine development.
