LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of Wyoming has been named a top campus for preventing binge drinking.

The school received a $20,000 award Friday from the groups Outside The Classroom and United Educators. The award honors the university for its UW AWARE Program, a nationally recognized alcohol education and intervention program. Freshmen must take Alcohol.edu, an alcohol education program, and the school offer alcohol-free late-night activities.

UW President Tom Buchanan accepted the honor. He says that while surveys show that binge drinking rates have dropped at UW, the school has more work to do.

The Laramie Boomerang reports that alcohol is a factor in 72 percent of arrests and citations by the UW Police Department.
