CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Gov. Matt Mead had a bucket of water dumped over his head on Tuesday, but it wasn't in celebration of his primary election victory.

Mead took the ice bucket challenge, which involves dumping a bucket of ice water over your head to raise money for the fight against ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease.

The fundraising phenomenon asks those willing to douse themselves to challenge others to do the same within 24 hours. If they don't, they must make a donation to charity. Each person who participates nominates more friends, who nominate more friends, who nominate still more friends, which explains why the trend has exploded.

Dr. Paul Cox of Jackson issued the challenge to Mead, who easily defeated two opponents challenging him in the Republican primary.
