POWELL — A 65-year-old Park County man remains in a Denver hospital after being seriously injured by a sow grizzly bear last week.

Family and friends of Nic Patrick say he faces a long recovery after suffering face, back, leg and arm injuries in the June 20 attack about 20 miles southwest of Cody. He is being treated at the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora.

Wyoming Game and Fish Department officials said Patrick was irrigating at around 6:30 a.m. when the bear went after the dog, then attacked Patrick. The dog also survived.

Game and Fish was unable to find the bear and have discontinued their search for it.

Wildlife supervisor Alan Osterland said that the bear has moved into a remote area.
