CENTENNIAL — Wyoming law enforcement officials say a pastor who reported being shot and wounded in a struggle with a burglar at his church actually shot himself.

Albany County Undersheriff Robert J. DeBree said Thursday that his agency has issued a misdemeanor citation to Dennis Lynn Davis alleging that he made a false report.

Davis is pastor of the Centennial Valley Community Church, west of Laramie. He was airlifted to a Cheyenne hospital Tuesday evening with a gunshot wound to his abdomen after telling police he was shot by a burglar.

DeBree says Davis later told deputies he shot himself intentionally because he had personal problems.

Attempts to reach the 44-year-old pastor on Thursday were not immediately successful.

DeBree says law enforcement agencies plan to seek reimbursement from Davis for their costs.
