First of all, I would like to thank The Billings Gazette for this opportunity to express our top priorities in City Council and how we prepare to handle these priorities. There are many priorities, however I have chosen to highlight my top three.
1. Communication with my constituents in Ward 5 is key! By keeping open lines of communication and being readily accessible to my constituents will help create a mutual respect for one another. I consider this as a 24/7/365 COMMITMENT from myself! I work for the constituents of Ward 5, they do not work for me.
2. Being fiscally responsible with the BUDGET, making sure that taxpayer dollars are being used properly, for example, no more using “ABC MONEY” to pay for “XYZ PROJECTS”. The council and the city administrator need to be held fiscally responsible for their actions.
3. Public safety should always be a top priority! With my 25 years' experience in the security field and my four years as chair of West End Task Force, I feel I am extremely qualified to keep this as a top priority. We are currently fully staffed in our Police and Fire departments, however our city continues to grow and with that said, in my personal opinion I would love for the council to find creative ways to create funding for our public safety without having to increase taxpayer dollars in the future.
In closing, my leadership skills with working as chair of the West End Task Force for four years, immediately followed by four years as co-chair of the Animal Control Board and current city of Billings zoning commissioner. All of this combined experience that totals over 11 years has prepared me in taking the next step as a City Council member representing Ward 5. I would greatly appreciate your vote. Thank you.
