With recent news of potential further cuts to state agencies, I am grateful to have Gov. Steve Bullock as a leader in steering our state's fiscal ship.

Bullock has proposed sound and responsible solutions to get our fiscal ship back on course. The cuts we have seen so far were preventable if only Republican legislators had listened to him. Further draconian cuts moving forward are still preventable and lawmakers would be wise to take a seat at the table with our governor to map the best course for our state.

Our state's economy is strong and in these times of prosperity, austerity is not the answer. We must continue investments in essential services like education, health care and public safety.

I join other Montanans in hoping that our Republican legislators will recognize this and do the job they failed to do in the first place. This storm can be weathered, but only if partisan politics are thrown aside to do what is best for all Montanans.
