I’m a caregiver of 18 years helping to provide care to the elderly and disabled in Montana. I’m writing in regards to the $240 million budget cuts and how they will affect the very people I care for. My work allows people the freedom to stay in their own homes and still do all the things they need to survive.
If our local legislators let these budget cuts go into effect, they are gambling with people’s lives. If they cut funding and I’m not there to make meals for my clients, some of them will not eat. Others may try to make food for themselves and end up cutting themselves. These are the untold struggles that our seniors face every day just to stay alive.
Caregivers can’t afford cuts to our paychecks, and our clients can’t afford cuts to their hours. We need our legislators to put politics aside and come up with real answers that meet our needs. We need courage not cuts.
