Understanding health insurance seems to more and more complicated every year. I, like 52,000 of my fellow Montanans, purchase my health coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace. I also fall within the 84 percent of those consumers who also get help paying for their coverage. Naturally, all the news about the Affordable Care Act has made me nervous lately. So, to find out what I need to know before I go shopping for 2018 coverage, I contacted my knowledgeable ACA Navigator through Planned Parenthood of Montana.
My Navigator reassured me that I will still be able to get help paying for my health insurance in 2018 — and because financial assistance increases as premiums rise, I probably won’t see a significant jump in my insurance rates. She also helped me understand that my health insurance company will still have to offer me help with my out-of-pocket costs because of my income. But, I was surprised to learn that the 2018 Open Enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace is shorter this year — only running from Nov. 1 to Dec. 15!
I’ve already had my free, confidential, unbiased appointment with my Navigator to update my application and choose a plan for 2018. You can too by visiting covermt.org and clicking on “Find Local Help,” or by calling 406-869-5045!
Having someone available to answer my questions and help me find the coverage that best fits my needs has been the best resource in better understanding the Market Place and my health insurance options.
