The tax bill working its way through the United States Senate is simply a blatant corporate takeover of America. The proposed doubling of the estate tax limit from $11 million to $22 million, the slashing of the alternative minimum tax, the reduction of the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 20 percent may sound good, but these actions are simply giveaways to the super-wealthy one percent. These unfair tax cuts will lead to an additional one-and-one-half trillion dollars to the national debt. Ultimately, legislators will have to address these massive deficits by cutting more Medicaid services and, no doubt, Medicare and Social Security benefits. Moreover, an estimated 13 million Americans could lose health insurance coverage because of the elimination of the individual mandate of the Affordable Care Act. This piece of legislation is a classic case of Robin Hood in reverse — taking from the poor to give to the rich.

I would encourage all central Montanans to contact Sen. Daines and Sen. Tester and express your concerns regarding this terribly unfair piece of legislation.
