I was pleased to see The Gazette's editorial "Methane waste debate flares again" (April 1). The editorial really hits the nail on the head. The Gazette was correct to conclude that the 2016 BLM methane waste prevention protections are both needed and common-sense safeguards, and that Secretary Zinke is wrongly trying to revise the rule. The waste of gas by the oil and gas industry throughout the United States and in Montana is a problem that robs the people of a valuable natural resource, while at the same time degrading air quality.
I urge the readers of The Gazette to join me and many other Montanans in demanding Secretary Ryan Zinke keep the 2016 BLM methane waste prevention rule in tact. Public comment on this revision is accepted until April 23. To find out more or to submit a comment, visit www.regulations.gov/document?D=BLM-2018-0001-0001.
