Years ago, Billings began writing its fate when the City Council allowed casinos to set up shop on every street corner, regardless of demographics or content of the neighborhood. I am not against gambling, but I wonder what the current council is thinking when they approve a casino located a short par four from Ben Steele School on the West End. Unfortunately, casinos act as a magnet for everything many of these folks tried to distance themselves from only to find it once again in their backyard. I would think many of those 117-plus emails opposing the approval are from folks who live nearby. Apparently, their voice doesn't count and certainly is no match for the hapless vote of their City Council.
