Let’s discuss the Keystone XL pipeline. I do believe it is great for commerce but there are a few things the public needs to know. Our president promised that U.S.-made materials would be utilized; this is fallacy because most of the pipeline materials have already been procured years ago and are staged in Montana, Nebraska and Wyoming. Now we hear about the jobs it will create; this is another fallacy. The contractors that will be utilized are Union Shop contractors and LU 798 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has jurisdiction in 48 of the 50 states on pipeline welding and installation. The control center for the line will be located in Houston so the long-term jobs will be minimal.

The recent Keystone leak is under investigation, but I believe that we will find out that substandard materials were used. I want this pipeline to proceed, but I want it done safely. I urge all Montanans to contact the PSC and demand answers to the things I addressed.
