Republican Greg Hertz’s op ed equates corporate tax reduction with tax relief for small business. This reflects a lack of knowledge of small-business accounting. Small business reports business income with personal income and will see taxes go up with passing of the Senate tax proposal. Since Hertz serves on the Montana Legislature's House Taxation committee, it helps explain why Republicans were so wrong in revenue prediction for Montana.
I was pleased to read that Republican Sen. Steve Daines got it right. He said the Senate bill hurts Main Street Montana. I am amazed that he actually confronted Trump with a reality check. It gives me hope that some senators still read the bill, can do the math, and are concerned about the voters they represent. The big question: Now that Daines knows this is a flawed tax bill benefiting only oligarchs like Trump, does Daines actually have the backbone to vote against the bill and Trump? Will he really vote for Main Street Montana?
