Position Summary 

 The Journeyman in Training, JIT, (Operations) must be able to operate individual systems in the plant to support unit operation during normal operating conditions, start-ups and shutdowns.  The JIT normally works under the general supervision of a Journeyman while in the training period.  The JIT is required to complete the JIT training program as set forth by the Colstrip Technical Training Department, including classroom training, on the job training, check sheets for systems in the plant, and testing requirements.  Extensive knowledge of all systems is required for operating and monitoring systems and accurately troubleshooting and diagnosing problems for fast, efficient maintenance work.  Special projects such as testing and clearance work will also be required.

   

 Primary Responsibilities 

  • Operate all plant systems to support unit operation.
  • Take readings and monitor all systems in assigned area.
  • Must be able to safely shut down and isolate systems for maintenance.
  • Train or assist in training of apprentices.
  • Keep other personnel informed of equipment status.
  • Work well as a team member with both operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of steam plant systems and their interrelationships.
  • Must complete all requirements of the JIT training program as set forth by Technical Training Department.
  • Work and function well on rotating 12-hour shifts, or on dayshifts as assigned.
  • Maintain assigned cleaning area.
  • Assist maintenance as required.

 

   

 Candidate Qualifications 

  • Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration.

 

  • Candidates must have passed or be able to pass the PPL Skilled Trades Testing.

 

   

 Basic Qualifications  

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent/GED
  • Minimum 3 years power plant experience or equivalent heavy industrial operations experience, or;
  • Completion of a formal coal-fired power plant apprenticeship/training program with a minimum of 6000 hours of on the job training.
  • Must have basic computer skills.

 

   

 Preferred Qualifications 

  • Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of steam plant systems and their interrelationships
  • Work well as a team member with operations and maintenance employees
  • Work and function well on rotating shifts

Position Summary

A Journeyman in Training (Electrical) must be able to complete any task assigned with the assistance of a qualified Journeyman.  This will consist of being able to troubleshoot and maintain low and medium voltage switches associated with motors, power transformers, distribution transformers, motor operated valves, power circuit breakers and generators.  They maintain solid state control system associated with the equipment listed above.  They will troubleshoot and maintain programmable logic controllers. Must have the ability to check and calibrate basic protective relays, over-current over/under voltage, etc.  Must have good working knowledge of schematics, logic drawings, location drawings, vendor drawings and manuals is necessary in problem solving. They must have the ability to use electrical test equipment (i.e. volt/ohm meter, Hi pot, Megger, AMP meter, brush recorders) commonly used by the craft.  They may be assisting the HVAC Technician with troubleshooting and maintaining various HVAC systems and chiller units.  The Journeyman in Training (Electrical) will be required to meet all requirements of the Journeyman in Training (JIT) Program within eighteen months of date of hire.

           

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Ability to troubleshoot and maintain low and medium voltage switchgear and electrical circuits
  2. Utilize all available resources (drawings and manuals) in problem solving.
  3. Must be able to work effectively with other craft.
  4. Ability to troubleshoot and maintain programmable logic controllers.
  5. Familiarity with test equipment used in the trade.
  6. Good knowledge of motors, distribution transformers, power transformers, power circuit breakers.
  7. Ability to plan and prioritize work.
  8. Ability to calibrate protective relays
  9. Ability to complete the Journeyman in Training Program required for the trade.

 

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration.

Candidates must successfully pass the PPL Skilled Trades Testing

 

Basic Qualifications

  1. Technical School degree or certification in electrical field or closely related field, or completed apprenticeship program in the electrical field.
  2. Three years of industry related experience.
  3. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  4. Must have a valid driver’s license.
