GREAT FALLS — Montana’s recent record-breaking cold snap probably didn’t cause widespread mortality in the state’s tree-eating mountain pine beetle population, but it may have killed beetles in localized areas, according to forest health experts.
Several Shoshone National Forest campgrounds will be closed for one to two days starting Sept. 3 as the insecticide Carbaryl is sprayed to protect trees from bark beetle attack.
As a part of the forest plan revision process, the Shoshone National Forest will be holding a seminar and field trip on the bark beetle epidemic.
