This year’s frigid temperatures have been a stark reminder of the importance of reliable and affordable electricity for families in Montana and across the nation. For many, the electricity that heats homes and keeps the lights on comes from coal produced here in southeast Montana.
The U.S. government approved plans by a Montana Indian tribe to lease an estimated 1.4 billion tons of coal to a Wyoming company that’s moving aggressively to increase coal exports to Asia, the company and tribe announced Thursday.
DECKER — Officials from the nation's third largest coal producer say Montana coal exports to Asia are expected to top 3 million tons this year, nearly double last year's level.
GILLETTE — Cloud Peak Energy’s President and CEO Colin Marshall donated 500 shares of Cloud Peak stock to Youth Emergency Services Inc. on Tuesday following the new coal company’s initial pricing on the New York Stock Exchange on Nov. 20.
