ZooMontana is closed temporarily. Closed during what should be a busy week for school field trips and Saturday’s Geranium Festival. The reason, according to the board chair and the executive director, is a lapse in the zoo’s liability insurance coverage.
ZooMontana’s liability insurance policy was canceled on Monday, and the zoo will be closed for the rest of the week.
Daniel Lundquist, director of marketing and Development at ZooMontana, issued the following press release after a meeting Thursday of the zoo's board of directors:
ZooMontana's Board of Directors agreed Thursday to work with Montana State University Billings business students on a strategic plan for the financially troubled zoo this summer.
ZooMontana’s future remains in limbo as the staff and board of directors wait to hear the outcome of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums committee meeting over the weekend.
ZooMontana marketing director Daniel Lundquist holds donated checks from the Billings Lions Club on Monday, March 7, 2011. The Lions made a donation of $2,500 with a promise of at least $1,000 for the next four years. Individual members also made donations.
ZooMontana was already scaring up big crowds at its annual Halloween bash, so new marketing and development director Daniel Lundquist figured why not stretch the fun over two days.
