The Billings Royals walked the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning. Matt Dillon emptied the bases with a walk-off grand slam over the left-field fence to help the Royals to a 7-6 win over the Billings Scarlets. Gordy Sveinson hit two home runs for the Scarlets.
Putting the leadoff hitter on base in any inning goes a long way to producing runs. Doing it eight times during the course of a 14-inning doubleheader goes even further toward producing victories.
John Vogel threw seven innings of two-run baseball to help the Billings Royals to a 4-2 win over the visiting Missoula Mavericks in the second game of a doubleheader at Dehler Park. The Royals won the first game 7-1, earning the win for Konner Wiechman.
