Any hopes the Colorado Ice had of upsetting the Billings Outlaws were quickly crushed Saturday night.

The Outlaws wrapped up their regular-season home schedule with a perfect 7-0 record, routing the Ice 83-30 in front of 3,837 fans at Rimrock Auto Arena at MetraPark.

The Billings defense forced six turnovers - all interceptions - and James Walton caught six passes for 134 yards and three scores.

"This was a trap game, we knew coming off the high of the last two weeks (beating Sioux Falls) we needed to start fast," said Walton, who has caught a touchdown pass in 12 of Billings' 13 games this season and leads the league with 33 TD receptions.

Outlaws quarterback Chris Dixon, an Indoor Football League MVP candidate, completed 15 of 19 passes attempts for 231 yards and six touchdowns in just three quarters of action.

"We wanted to finish tonight. Last time we played them we got a big lead and let them back in it, but were able to hold on," said Dixon.

After Billings went three-and-out on its first possession, Colorado got on the scoreboard first, getting a 2-yard touchdown run from former University of Colorado running back Maurice Cantrell.

It melted away in a hurry from there.

"I was definitely happy, except for that first series," said Billings coach Heron O'Neal. "The offense and defense both were clicking on all cylinders. It was good to see that going into our bye weeks the next two weeks.

"(Defensive end) Mike Bazemore just dominated the first half. He was rushing the passer, blocking kicks and getting interceptions."

Over the next 9:44, spanning the first and second quarters, Billings ran off 27 unanswered points, sparked by Bazemore and running back Charles Anthony. Anthony scored twice over that span (15 yards and 2 yards) while Bazemore blocked and recovered a field goal that he returned himself for a 21-yard score and 27-7 lead before Deric Yaussi stopped the bleeding for the Ice, converting on a 45-yard field goal.

"I just wanted to come in and have no letdowns. Just because we have a good record, doesn't mean don't have to play hard," said Bazemore. "With me being a veteran on the team I wanted to come out with the intensity I thought we needed tonight and it worked out for us."

Walton, who has now caught a scoring pass in 10 consecutive games, got his first score of the game in with just 15 seconds remaining in the opening quarter.

On second-and15 from their own 6, Dixon rolled to his left and found Walton down the sideline for the 44-yard score.

Dixon later found Walton in the back of the end zone for a 9- yard score to cap the first half, giving the Outlaws a 48-17 halftime lead.

"Our offensive line has been huge for us all year," said Dixon. "We can't succeed without them."

"We did a good job picking up the blitzes," added Outlaws tackle Nolan Fisher. "Colorado does a lot of zone stuff, but we were able to execute and give Chris time to throw."

Muhammad Shamsid-Deen and Javon Jackson each grabbed two of the Outlaws' six interceptions, while Bazemore and Michael Eby each picked off one pass. Ice quarterback Ryan Clement finished the game 8-for-22 and threw four interceptions, as the Outlaws defensive backs kept the former Miami Hurricane guessing all night.

"This whole week we just worked on our communication," said Shamsid-Deen. "We have a lot of great players back there and we are still getting a whole lot better."

Jackson led the defense with 61/2 tackles, while the Outlaws limited the league's third-ranked running attack to just 27 yards on 16 carries.

Anthony finished with 40 yards on just eight carries, while Dixon added 16 yards on the ground.

The Outlaws will take the next two weeks off before traveling to Omaha, where they will look to avenge their only loss of the season.

"We got some practices scheduled, but a lot of guys are going to go home and get healthy," said O'Neal of the quirky scheduling.

Former Outlaws receiver Jamie January, now with the Ice, was limited just one catch for three yards.

"It was good to be back here and see the guys. They have great fans and it's a hard place to play," said January, who was released in April.

NOTES: The Outlaws' next home game will be July 25 when they host a second-round playoff game. … Backup quarterback Monte Purvis scored from 14 yards out on his first snap with the Outlaws. … The Outlaws were without Minaya Smith, Michael Landry and Tim Brown, who were nursing minor injuries for the playoff push. … Past Mars, voted Billings' top rock band for the last three years, performed at halftime.
