BOZEMAN -- The Billings Royals will head into the state tournament on a high note after a doubleheader sweep of Bozeman on Saturday.

The Royals won by scores of 10-1 and 9-6, and closed the regular season with a 44-13 overall record and a 16-6 mark in conference games.

Joe Zimmer and Bryan Mitchell each went 3 for 4 in the first game, while Tanner Leenknecht and Ryan Walla each had two RBIs. Beau Thomas earned the victory on the mound, tossing a six hitter while allowing one earned run.

Zimmer had three more hits in the second game, as did Matt Dillon. The Royals survived five defensive errors behind starter Wyatt Summers, who allowed two earned runs on seven hits.

The Royals, the two-time defending Montana/Alberta America Legion baseball champions, open the state tournament Tuesday in Lethbridge, Alberta.
