Bozeman scored eight runs in the top of the ninth inning to negate an eight-run eighth by the Billings Royals to win 18-15 in a slugfest at Dehler Park on Wednesday night.
The Bucks sent 13 men to the plate and had seven hits in the eighth, including run-scoring singles by Jenner Kerns, Michael Gunther, Nick Winn, Joel Thayer and Bennett Hostetler.
Hostetler’s RBI gave Bozeman a six-run cushion going into the bottom half of the ninth. The Royals were able to cut the deficit in half, thanks in part to a two-run single by Tanner Leenknecht, but got no closer.
The Royals scored eight in the eighth to take a 12-10 lead, highlighted by a two-run double by Konner Wiechman and a two-run single by Pete Lind. But the rally was erased by the Bucks in the ninth.
The Royals fell to 13-5 overall and 4-2 in the league. They travel to Missoula for a four-day tournament beginning Thursday.
