RAPID CITY, S.D. -- The Billings Royals split their season-opening doubleheader with Post 22 of Rapid City on Saturday, winning the opener 16-7 and falling 8-6 in the second game.

The Royals scored five runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to pull away in the first game. Tanner Leenknecht led Billings, going 3 for 5 with four RBIs.

Kevin Angland also had three hits, and Joe Zimmer, Matt Dillon, Konner Wiechman, Austin Vogel and Nolan Timmons each drove in two runs. John Vogel earned the victory, allowing four runs through five innings while striking out four.

Rapid City scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to come from behind and win Game 2. Tanner Simons finished 4 for 4, and Matt Minnick had three RBIs. Leadoff hitter Brian Mitchell had two hits and drove in two runs for Billings.

The Royals and Rapid City play another doubleheader on Sunday.
