MISSOULA – Anthony Hilliard limited the Billings Royals to five hits in leading the Missoula Mavericks to a 5-0 victory Sunday in the championship game of the Mavericks Memorial Tournament.
Missoula went 6-0 at the Legion baseball tourney and improved its record to 27-11. The Royals are now 16-8 and went 3-3 at the tourney. Billings has a 4-3 conference record.
Royals pitcher Tanner Leenknecht also pitched the full seven innings, scattering 11 hits and two walks.
In an earlier contest, Bryan Mitchell and Matt Dillon both drove in three runs and the Royals defeated the Spokane Bandits 11-9.
Mitchell finished 2 for 4, with both of his hits being doubles. He also scored a run. Dillon blasted his three-run double in the fifth inning.
Leadoff batter Joe Zimmer produced at the top of the order, going 3 of 5 with three runs and two RBIs. Zimmer slapped a two-run double in the second, and Mitchell's two-base hit sent two runners home in the sixth.
Billings' next action is at Kalispell Tuesday, with a conference twin bill scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
