MINNEAPOLIS -- Tanner Leenknecht ripped a two-run homer in the sixth inning and the Billings Royals withstood a rally by Bloomington Gold (Minn.) for a 10-7 American Legion baseball victory Sunday at the Gopher Classic.

The two-time defending State AA champion Royals (34-11) led 10-2 when Bloomington scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Leenknecht finished with three RBIs for Billings. He was 2-4 at the plate, including a double, with three runs.  Teammate Wyatt Summers also plated three runners. Both of Summers hits were doubles. Konner Wiechman added two RBIs for the Royals.

Cody Frenk earned the win for the Royals, working six efficient innings and allowing five hits and two earned runs. He walked two. 

The Royals won their pool and will now face the Chanahassan pool winner Monday at 11:30 a.m.
