GREAT FALLS — Tyler Mahle allowed one unearned run in 6 2/3 innings Wednesday and the Billings Mustangs beat Great Falls 4-1 to remain three games up in the Pioneer League’s North division.

Argenis Aldazoro hit his sixth August home run, a solo shot in the third inning, to tie the game. Ty Washington added a sac fly in the fifth and Brian O’Grady hit a two-run triple in the sixth to give the Mustangs more than enough offense.

Mahle (5-4) scattered nine hits and didn’t allow a walk. It’s the third time in his last four starts the right-hander has gone at least six innings. He’s not allowed an earned run in his last two starts, a span of 13 2/3 inning.

Brennan Bernardino pitched the ninth to pick up his seventh save.

The Mustangs begin a five-game series at Missoula with a doubleheader on Thursday. Billings leads the Osprey by three games in the race for the North’s final playoff spot, with nine games remaining on the regular season schedule.

Missoula was an 11-4 winner over the Helena Brewers on Wednesday and has won two straight games.

The Mustangs are chasing their first postseason berth since 2008.
