HELENA -- The Billings Mustangs held on Saturday night to beat Helena 6-5 and forge a split in a doubleheader with the Brewers at Kindrick Legion Field.
The Mustangs won the nightcap, which was a makeup from a rainout earlier in the year, as Brennan Bernardino struck out Sthervin Matos in the seventh. Billings led 6-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, but Helena rallied behind Francisco Castillo three-run triple to tie the game.
Jose Duarte had two hits and a pair of RBIs to lead the Mustangs offense. Ty Washington, Cory Thompson and Aristides Aquino all had extra-base hits.
Helena scored four runs in the second inning of the opening game, and that was enough for a 5-3 win earlier Saturday.
The Brewers stroked five singles during their second-inning onslaught. Castillo produced a two-run single, while Natanael Mejia and Alan Sharkey also batted in runs.
Billings jumped ahead 1-0 in the first on a sacrifice fly by Thompson. The Mustangs tightened the score by pushing home two runs in the top of the seventh on a ground out by Alex Blandino and a double by Thompson.
The Mustangs, who remain .500 at 10-10, finish their road trip Sunday with a 1 p.m. game against Helena.
