The Billings Mustangs start their first seven-game road trip of the season Wednesday night when they play the Chukars in Idaho Falls.
It’s the first of three games with the Chukars. Following the series in Idaho Falls, the Mustangs play four games in Ogden, Utah, against the Raptors. Tuesday was an off day.
The Mustangs will be looking to exact a little revenge on this trip. Over the last week, the Chukars and Raptors invaded Dehler Park and won six of seven games against the Mustangs, which included a four-game sweep by Idaho Falls.
Billings takes the field Wednesday having won just three of its last 10, slipping five games behind North Division-leading Great Falls. Idaho Falls, on the other hand, is one of the hottest teams in the Pioneer League.
Despite standing in third place in the South Division, the Chukars have won seven of their last 10. That includes the sweep in Billings when the Chukars batted .301 and outscored the Mustangs 23-13.
Ryan O’Hearn continues to lead the league in hitting. The Idaho Falls first baseman is batting .402, and he shares the home run lead, along with the Mustangs’ Aristides Aquino and three others, at five.
Billings turns to starter Luke Moran to get the trip off to a good start. Overall, the right-hander is 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA, but he’s pitched to a 2.65 ERA in his last three outings.
