Montana State has hired Oregon assistant Brian Fish as its men’s basketball coach, though the hiring wasn't officially confirmed by the Bobcats Monday night.’s Jeff Goodman first reported the hiring, citing two unnamed sources. A press conference has been scheduled for Wednesday, according to the report.

Bobcats sports information director Bill Lamberty said he could not confirm the hiring, though another MSU athletic department source said it was official. The Oregonian reported that UO coach Dana Altman informed Duck players and recruits of Fish's departure Monday evening.

The 2013-14 season was Fish’s fourth on Altman’s staff at Oregon. The Ducks advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament before being eliminated by Wisconsin.

Fish spent 13 seasons under Altman in stints at Oregon, Creighton and Marshall. Overall, Fish has 24 years of Division I coaching experience. Seven programs that Fish has been associated with as either a player or coach have reached the NCAA tournament.

The Bobcats finished this past season with a 14-17 record and a 7-9 mark in the Big Sky Conference. Brad Huse resigned as coach on March 18 after eight seasons.

Fish, a native of Seymour, Ind., played two seasons at Western Kentucky for Clem Haskins, then transferred to Marshall. Fish earned a degree in sports management in 1989 before becoming a graduate assistant there.
