BOZEMAN – Former Shepherd and three-time Montana Class B all-state standout Janie McRae will join the Montana State women’s basketball program, Bobcat head coach Tricia Binford announced Wednesday.

McRae, who was enrolled as a student at MSU during the 2016-17 academic year, will have four years of eligibility remaining.

“We are so excited that Janie has decided to join our team,” Binford said. “Janie completed her freshman year academically at Montana State and approached us about walking on this spring. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have her join the program as she encompasses the strong characteristics of a Bobcat. She was a highly decorated high school athlete and received great coaching under the direction of Bill Lepley at Shepherd High School.”

McRae, a 6-foot-3 center, averaged 19.3 points and 11.6 rebounds, while shooting 65 percent from the field her senior season as the Fillies advanced to the Class B state tournament semifinals. In addition, she also averaged three blocks, 2.3 steals and 1.7 ass per contest.

Over her four-year career, McRae averaged 13.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 57 percent from the floor. She finished as Shepherd's all-time leading rebounder (1,042) and second-leading scorer (1,377).

McRae was a 2015-16 All-USA Montana Girls Basketball First-Team selection and garnered Max Preps/WBCA High School Player of the Week accolades in February 2016.
